SG50 is indeed a milestone, an important page unveiled in the chronicles of Singapore’s history. We have come a long way, transforming ourselves into a modern, thriving metropolis it is today. This year’s National Observance ceremonies claimed many firsts: This was the first time all observance ceremonies island-wide were held on the same day, at the same time. This was the first time Singaporeans were able to hear for themselves Mr Lee read the Proclamation. The recording was broadcast at 9 am at all National Day Observance Ceremonies and on all local TV and radio channels.

The festive mood was even more pronounced this year, as residents celebrated Singapore’s golden jubilee with National Day Dinners and National Day Observance Ceremonies in Admiralty, Marsiling, Sembawang, Woodgrove and Woodlands divisions. Games and cultural performances were put up, much to the delight of those who attended.
